The 2025 Taiwan Design Expo will be held in Changhua for the first time from October 10 to October 26. The Changhua County Government held a press conference today (the 1st) at the Changhua Art Museum to unveil the official key visual.

The curatorial theme and key visual were officially revealed:
“Changhua Go (((CHANGHUA)))”

The key visual was designed by internationally renowned designer Aaron Nieh, who joined **Chief Curator Liu Chen-Jung at the press conference to personally share the design concept.

Changhua County Magistrate Wang Hui-Mei and Chang Chi-Yi, President of the Taiwan Design Research Institute, jointly unveiled the “Changhua Go” plaque, symbolizing how design “opens up Changhua” and officially marks the launch of the Taiwan Design Expo in Changhua. At the same time, industries of all kinds were invited to participate. From now until September 15, the public is welcome to register via the Design Response Platform, allowing this design event—belonging to Changhua—to blossom across the county.

As the Taiwan Design Expo comes to Changhua for the first time, the theme “Changhua Go” introduces innovative design into Changhua’s industries, culture, and daily life, reinterpreting the county through the concept of “Opening a century-old fertile ground and designing a blueprint for the future.” From manufacturing strength to aesthetics, from OEM to branding, Changhua is not only capable of making products, but also of telling stories through design and creating brand value.

Magistrate Wang noted that this year’s expo marks the largest-ever cross-township curatorial scale in the history of the Taiwan Design Expo. Exhibition areas span Changhua City, Lukang Township, Tianwei Township, and Tianzhong Township, with three major exhibition zones and 14 themed venues, making it the expo with the largest exhibition area and the greatest number of main venues to date. The unveiling of the key visual also signifies the official launch of the 2025 Taiwan Design Expo in Changhua. The public is warmly invited to visit Changhua this October to experience “Changhua Go (xing)” and witness “Changhua Go (hang)” firsthand.

Magistrate Wang emphasized that the success of the Design Expo relies not only on the county government, but on the collective efforts of the entire county. All residents of Changhua are warmly invited to join the Local Response Program and ignite design energy together. There are three participation categories:

  1. Marketing Response – promoting the expo through social media, websites, and storefronts;

  2. Promotional Response – offering discounts or giveaways during the expo period to showcase Changhua’s hospitality;

  3. Product Response – selecting locally distinctive products to serve as ambassadors for “Changhua Go.”

President Chang Chi-Yi of the Taiwan Design Research Institute stated that the Taiwan Design Expo is not just about design, but a force that reshapes urban landscapes. For the 2025 expo in Changhua, the selection process began two years in advance, allowing the exhibition to truly integrate design into city governance. Innovations include pedestrian-friendly improvements around the Changhua Art Museum, the creation of an all-ages inclusive park on Bagua Mountain, collaboration with Taiwan Railways to renovate Changhua Station and the Roundhouse, and the integration of central government resources to introduce design into commercial districts. In areas such as the Xiaoxi Business District, storefronts and public spaces were upgraded, and products elevated. Industrial design guidance was also provided to local industries—from branding and distribution to opening factories—showcasing Changhua’s industrial strength to the world. In addition, Changhua industries were connected with Hyogo Prefecture in Japan to present craft design exhibitions in Osaka and Shikoku, with these exhibition outcomes now brought back and showcased at the Taiwan Design Expo in Changhua.

Chief Curator Liu Chen-Jung remarked that Changhua is often passed by in haste, and many people may not realize how much they have missed. With its diverse agricultural, fishery, livestock, and industrial foundations, Changhua is not only a logistical hub within Taiwan, but also a command center that connects to the world. Changhua is more than just a place—it is “Changhua Go.” This expo represents collaboration between central and local governments, opening up the entire city across four townships for the first time, allowing visitors to experience the fertile ground of Greater Changhua in one comprehensive design journey.

Key visual designer Aaron Nieh explained that the concept of “Changhua Go” is all-encompassing. By deconstructing the Chinese character 「行」 into its left and right strokes and transforming them into parentheses, the visual identity extends imaginatively and semi-abstractly. The character represents industries of all kinds; by inserting different radicals into the character, one can visualize diverse professions and industrial landscapes, creating new forms and imaginative spaces. The color palette reflects Changhua’s three major exhibition zones, with distinct color schemes for Changhua South, Tianzhong–Tianwei, and Lukang. A total of three color systems, 36 graphic elements, six layout formats, and over ten types of brackets generate hundreds or even thousands of visual combinations. The design blends Changhua’s deep blue skies, lush green trees, faith-representing gold tones, and architectural colors of the urban landscape, forming the highlights of the key visual system.

According to the County Government’s Planning Department, this year’s Design Expo centers on “future-oriented enterprise thinking,” promoting the integration of design into city governance. By engaging industries, everyday life, and global connections, design opens up Changhua. Built upon the foundations of production landscapes, circulation systems, and diverse industries, the expo envisions the operation of a century-wise “Changhua Go.”
